Janelle Honeycutt suffered a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) as she was hit by a car. I would often see her and her caretakers at physical therapy.
Many days I found myself down as I had to take my son away from the after school play he and his classmates were enjoying so much, and drive an hour to his physical therapy appointment. Even though I truly understand his circumstances are in our life for a reason, for soul growth, there are still plenty of days where it gets just plain tiresome. Janelle would often have therapy at the same time as my son. Seeing Preston and Janelle’s smiling faces and feeling their bright energy would change my whole day. I would think, “If they can do it, I can do it. Their situation is far more challenging than mine, and they are going about it in a way from which I can only learn.” So I did. I think of the Honeycutt family often, my imaginary pillar of strength, to which at times I cling dearly. Until I asked to film their story, they had no idea that they had been, and still are, such a light in my life. It doesn’t get much more beautiful than that.
