Trees talk, know family ties and care for their young? Is this too fantastic to be true? German forester Peter Wohlleben (‘The Hidden Life of Trees’) and scientist Suzanne Simard (The University of British Columbia, Canada) have been observing and investigating the communication between trees over decades. And their findings are most astounding. Trees are so much more than rows of wood waiting to be turned into furniture, buildings or firewood. They are more than organisms producing oxygen or cleaning the air for us. They are individual beings that have feelings, know friendship have a common language and look after each other.

The filmmakers Julia Dordel and Guido Tolke are passionate about the environment – especially about trees. Born and raised in Germany, Julia Dordel (Phd, Forest Sciences) has lived for over ten years in Vancouver, Canada. Her love of film in combination with Natural Sciences where already apparent during her high-school years where she produced her own documentary films for science classes. Frustrated by the fact that the word about innovative green science discoveries rarely gets out to the public and motivated by her love for film, Julia now dedicates her life to Natural Science Communication via all kinds of moving pictures on various platforms.

Guido is a German filmmaker with over a decade of experience as an independent director & writer. Since childhood he has produced and directed his own films. His work on countless film projects has taken him around the world. He is dedicated to environmental protection and has been a vegetarian and now vegan for most of his life.  Guido is also a lecturer for cinematography at the University of Hildesheim, Germany.
