Many Columbus State students volunteer in their communities, but Donte Woods-Spikes takes it to the next level.
The East Side resident reads to children at the local library, volunteers at church, organizes a meetup for local young men, and works with a white Columbus police officer to build connections in the community.
“I feel like I was able to find a way out and I want to open up doors for other people and provide them with options and opportunities just as Columbus State has done with me,” Woods-Spikes said.
In addition to his volunteer work, Woods-Spikes also attends college at Columbus State. He plans to transfer to a four-year college for a degree in Social Work.
